About Reflexology

What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a natural therapy, which encourages the body to heal itself.

Gentle pressure is applied to specific areas of the feet which relate to each part of the body. The trained hands of a Reflexologist can feel tension and tiny deposits in the feet, which block energy pathways.

Release of these helps the body to eliminate toxins, thereby detoxifying the whole body and encouraging the natural flow of energy to all parts of the body. It is when the energy flow is blocked that illnesses and diseases can occur.

The History of Reflexology

Jan and a client

Reflexology is an ancient form of healing which was practiced by the Chinese and Egyptian peoples thousands of years ago.

Over the years, it has been discovered that the benefits of Reflexology were known to some primitive tribes of Africa and to the Red Indians.

In 1913, Reflexology was introduced to the West by an American ear, nose and throat surgeon, Dr William Fitzgerald. Mrs Doreen Bayly, who instructed many of the early practitioners, introduced Reflexology to Great Britain in the early 1960's.

Today, Reflexology is well established in the complementary health field, helping thousands of people to discover the body's natural healing ability.
